* All oral presentations (scientific and educational) must include a conflict-of-interest slide. You are also encouraged to include license information. See instructions below.
* Upload your slides in the Speaker Preview Room (Sala de Premsa) before the session
* Check that videos, animations, graphics and equations display correctly after uploading
* Contact technical staff for specific needs
* Personal laptops are not allowed

General guidance:
Please arrive at your session early (10-15 minutes in advance) and present yourself to the moderators before the start of the session. Make sure to not exceed the allotted time for your presentation. For a smooth transition between speakers, be prepared to proceed to the stage as soon as the previous speaker has finished. For lightning talks, please wait at the side of the stage while the previous speaker is presenting.

Conflict of Interest and License Slide
All oral presentations (scientific and educational) must include a conflict-of-interest (COI) slide. It is strongly encouraged for Lightning Talks.

Additionally, we strongly encourage to clearly identify the copyright license under which you wish to release your presentation. This will allow the ESMRMB, or any other party, to properly redistribute and reuse your content only according to the terms that you specifically agree to.

We suggest the usage of the CC-BY license, which ensures that the work will be properly attributed to you if reproduced or redistributed.

Please use our provided powerpoint template.

Posters
All posters are traditional printed posters. Please print your poster in size A0 (portrait) 80 x 120 cm. It is recommended to include the program number and contact details of the corresponding author on the poster.

Please note the program number to locate your poster. Poster panels will be marked accordingly. Make sure to put up your poster as early as possible during the congress. Posters will remain accessible to participants in the poster area also outside the poster sessions. The poster area has the following opening hours:

* Thursday, 1 October: 8:00 – 17:00
* Friday, 2 October: 8:00 – 19:00
* Saturday, 3 October: 8:00 – 14:00

You are expected to be present at your poster for the duration of your poster session. On Friday, 2 October, at 17:00-19:00 the poster area will be open for the poster drinks. This is an opportunity both to view other people’s posters, and to hover near your own poster to connect with others interested in your work. Grab a drink and prepare for discussions in an informal atmosphere.

Please note that the poster area closes at 14:00 on Saturday, 3 October. Please make sure to have removed your poster before closure. Remaining posters will be disposed of.
----

Educational Presentations
The presentation should last, in general, 20 minutes, unless differently communicated by the CPC in your invitation email. In case of doubt, please contact the CPC member that invited you, or francesco.santini@unibas.ch (CPC Chair).

Lightning Talks
The lightning talk format includes a short oral presentation followed by a poster session. The first part (30 or 45 min) of each lightning talk session consists of stage presentations in the room indicated in the program. The last 45 minutes of each lightning talk session is dedicated to the posters, which will be displayed in the regular poster area. Please put up your poster in advance and note the location. Once the oral session is finished, please proceed quickly from the seminar room to the poster area.

Please see guidelines for oral presenters for preparing your slides. The oral presentation is max. 2.5 minutes per abstract. There is no limit to the number of slides, but please make sure to not exceed the allotted time. As the presentation schedule is tight, the moderators will be instructed to interrupt any presentation that is too long.

🎒 First Time at ESMRMB? Tips & Tricks for Getting the Most Out of the 2026 Annual Meeting in girona
So, you’re going to the 2026 ESMRMB meeting in Girona —perfect! This is your chance to dive into the vibrant, sometimes overwhelming, but always inspiring world of MR conferences.

Whether you’re making your in-person conference debut or you’re already experienced and just looking for fresh tips, this guide will help you navigate it all—with advice collected from conference veterans, past webinars, and early career researchers like you.
----

🎯 Before the Conference: Set Yourself Up for Success
💡 Know the conference structure

The meeting has three focus topics: The Future of MR in Society, The Future of MR in Clinical Practice & The Future of MR Machines, and two educational tracks: Building together & Broadening the Horizon. Looking for sessions within a track will help you find coherent themes.

🔎 Explore the program early

Start by browsing the program for your topics of interest—don’t try to see everything. Prioritize sessions, speakers, and abstracts that excite you.

📅 Build your own schedule

Some prefer digital tools, others like to scribble on printouts—do what works best for you. Add buffer time! Some sessions are far apart, and spontaneous hallway chats are often the best moments.

🤝 Make a list of people to meet

Reach out to potential collaborators, researchers whose work you admire, or people you’ve only met online. A quick “Hey, are you attending ESMRMB?” message goes a long way.

🍷 Know your social schedule

From the Welcome Reception on Thursday, the Poster Drinks on Friday, to the Congress Dinner on Saturday (be sure to book it explicitly), every day during the ESMRMB meeting is full of informal chances to connect. Ask around—there are always institution-specific events and spontaneous meetups.
----

🧠 During the Conference: Make It Yours
🎓 Make the most of the program

Check session contents, not just titles. Focus on what's most relevant to your current projects or learning gaps. Be sure to check out session types such as educationals, hot topics debates, and member sessions beyond the classic scientific sessions.

📌 Find your conference style

Some love talks, others thrive in poster sessions or short lighting talks. Don’t force yourself into every session block—poster halls and coffee corners can be just as valuable.

📝 Take notes—your future self will thank you

Decide beforehand how you’ll keep track (notebook, app, OneNote, etc.). Label clearly for easier post-conference review.

🙋 Network without pressure

Not into cold networking? Start with sessions by people you're curious about. Prepare 1–2 questions in advance. It’s a smooth way to start a conversation. The ESMRMB community is a friendly and welcoming crowd, always open to meeting new people—so don’t hesitate to reach out.

💬 You know someone ‘from the literature’ but are afraid to talk to them?

Send an email to suggest to meet at their poster for a short chat or tell a colleague/friend who knows them to get you introduced. Or just be brave and say hi at their poster session. Its okay to say you are new to MRI and guaranteed people will be kind to you.

🧲 Want to attract people to your poster?

Add some fun frills that people can ask you about or mini-print-outs or little objects that can help to explain your research in layman's terms. You can also participate in the GAP award to further promote your abstract and have a chance of winning up to 200 €.

⏸ Take breaks, skip guilt-free

FOMO is real, but burnout is worse. Schedule in time to eat, rest, and discover the city—especially with Girona’s sun calling outside! Perhaps this would be a good time to try out the MR board game!
----

🎤 Presenters: Own Your Moment
💬 Don’t panic if you don’t know the answer

It’s okay to say, “That’s a great question—I’d love to follow up afterward.” Stay after your session—there’s now dedicated time to meet speakers!

📇 Be approachable

You don’t need business cards, but make sure your name and contact info are findable (e.g., QR codes, LinkedIn, email on your last slide).

✨ Don’t overcomplicate your presentation.

Keep it simple and clear—don’t rush through it. It’s always better to say a bit less and deliver a strong, memorable message, rather than overload your talk with too much information.

💡 Feeling nervous? You’re not alone.

If you feel like throwing yourself in front of a bus to avoid presenting, know that most speakers recognize that feeling (even the experienced ones!). It’s totally normal to be stressed. You’ll do great!
----

🤔 Not Sure How to Mingle? Try This:
✅ Compliment someone’s poster or talk – it’s a natural conversation starter.

✅ Ask what they’ve enjoyed at the conference so far – everyone has a favorite moment!

✅ Say you’re new – it's relatable and instantly lowers the barrier.
----

🔁 After the Conference: Don’t Let It End
📚 Review & share your notes

Consider organizing a wrap-up meeting with your group. Summarize your highlights and discuss what you learned.

📨 Follow up

Send short, friendly messages to people you met or whose work inspired you. Mention something specific from your interaction, or share a related paper.

💡 Stay connected

Follow ESMRMB on social media. Watch for ECRC highlights and future events to keep the momentum going.

Missed something?

Check ESMRMB’s YouTube channel for some of the previous years’ educational talks!
----

💬 Final Thoughts
Conferences can feel like a whirlwind, especially the first time. You won't see everything, and that’s okay. Let yourself explore, make space for serendipity, and—most importantly—enjoy the ride.

Vannesjo: /* Ready to submit? */

Late-Breaking abstract formats
Since 2025, the ESMRMB is offering two special abstract formats to be submitted in the late August deadline: Registered Reports and Project Abstracts. These innovative submission categories are designed to enhance the rigour, transparency, and collaborative spirit of magnetic resonance research.

Registered Reports: Rigorous Planning Before Execution
Registered Reports represent a paradigm shift toward more rigorous and transparent research practices. Unlike traditional abstracts that present completed studies, registered reports outline your planned investigation before data collection begins. These submissions focus on the quality of your methodology, statistical analysis plan, and theoretical foundation rather than results.

This format is particularly valuable for confirmatory research where you have clear hypotheses to test. While this is not traditionally considered, this format is well-suited for methodological development too. By peer-reviewing the research plan upfront, registered reports help ensure methodological rigour while reducing publication bias toward positive results. Whether you're conducting clinical studies with specific outcome predictions or developing methods with clear performance targets, registered reports provide a framework for transparent, hypothesis-driven science.

Accepted registered report abstracts commit you to following your outlined methodology, with the expectation that you'll submit your final results as a regular abstract to the ESMRMB congress the following year. These follow-up submissions will be evaluated solely on adherence to your original plan, ensuring that well-designed studies are recognized regardless of whether results are positive or negative.

Project Abstracts: Fostering Collaboration and Innovation
Project Abstracts introduce an entirely new approach to conference participation by inviting the community to engage with research at all stages, including its earliest stages. These submissions present research ideas, ongoing projects, or initiatives that would benefit from community input, collaboration, or feedback.

This format embraces the collaborative nature of scientific progress, welcoming submissions across the full spectrum of research and development—from technical tool development and scientific studies to educational initiatives and open science projects. Project abstracts are particularly valuable when you need specific expertise, want to build research networks, or seek community guidance to shape your work's direction.

Selected project abstracts will be featured in dedicated lightning talk session followed by a project marketplace, creating unique opportunities for meaningful scientific exchange and partnership formation.

Why These New Formats Matter
Both formats address critical needs in the research community. Registered reports promote reproducibility and methodological excellence, while project abstracts foster the collaborative relationships that drive innovation forward. Together, they represent ESMRMB's commitment to supporting research at every stage—from initial conception through rigorous execution.

These new submission categories complement our traditional abstract formats, providing researchers with more options to share their work meaningfully and engage with the magnetic resonance community in ways that best serve their research goals.

Ready to submit?

Guidelines for Registered Report Abstract Submissions
Overview
The European Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and Biology (ESMRMB) is introducing registered reports as a new abstract submission format. This format is designed to enhance the rigour and transparency of research in magnetic resonance, including both method development and clinical applications. Registered reports outline planned research prior to data collection, focusing on the quality of methodology and statistical analysis rather than results.

What is a Registered Report?
A registered report is a research plan that is peer-reviewed before the research is conducted. For this conference, registered report abstracts describe your planned investigation including the rationale, hypothesis, methodology, and statistical analysis plan. Registered reports are particularly valuable for confirmatory (hypothesis-testing) research, but less suitable for exploratory research.

Suitable Abstract Categories
Clinical Research
Clinical studies are natural candidates for registered reports and should include:

# Clear hypotheses derived from prior evidence
# Detailed methodology including imaging parameters, subject recruitment criteria, and data analysis pipelines
# Appropriate statistical approaches with sample size justification
# Defined outcome measures with clinically meaningful thresholds

Method Development Research
Method development studies, while traditionally not considered candidates for registered reports, are suitable when they include a clear validation component. These submissions should:

# Provide preliminary data demonstrating technical feasibility (in vitro and/or initial in vivo data)
# Outline specific hypotheses regarding method performance (e.g., "The proposed method will achieve X% higher CNR for Y type of lesions compared to the current gold standard")
# Detail the validation approach with clear metrics of success
# Include a sample size justification based on preliminary data or literature

Required Components
All registered report abstracts must include:

1. Introduction
1.1. Background and motivation
* Concise background and rationale
* Clear gap in knowledge being addressed
* Relevance to clinical practice or technological advancement

1.2. Hypothesis
* Explicit, testable hypothesis or hypotheses
* For method development: specific performance metrics to be achieved
* For clinical studies: expected clinical outcomes or relationships

2. Methodology
Briefly describe how the preliminary data were obtained.
For method-development abstracts, a section describing the novel method being presented should be included here.

3. Current Status and Preliminary Results
Submissions must include one or more of the following:
* Pilot data demonstrating technical feasibility of the proposed method, including:
** Initial in vitro validation results
** Preliminary in vivo testing
* Literature review with meta-analysis for expected effect sizes
* Initial exploratory study results that inform the confirmatory study design

4. Plan and Outlook
This is the most important part of the Registered Report as it contains the whole study plan.

4.1. Study protocol
* Study design and population
* MR acquisition protocol with detailed parameters
* Additional measurements or interventions
* For method development: implementation details and validation approach
* Data processing pipeline

4.2. Statistical Analysis Plan
* Primary and secondary outcome measures
* Statistical tests to be performed
* Sample size calculation with justification
* Anticipated effect sizes based on preliminary data or literature
* Handling of potential confounders
* Plan for missing data

5. References
Not added to the character count

Evaluation Criteria
Registered report abstracts will be evaluated based on:

# Scientific merit and innovation
# Methodological rigour
# Quality of preliminary data supporting feasibility
# Appropriateness of statistical approach and sample size justification

Important Notes
* Registered report abstracts are not "half abstracts" but complete research plans.
* Focus is on confirmatory rather than exploratory research.
* Preliminary data should be sufficient to justify the proposed approach.
* Registered reports represent a commitment to the outlined methodology.
* The authors of accepted abstracts are expected to submit the final results as a regular abstract to the ESMRMB congress the following year, by the usual abstract deadline in April or May. For the second stage submission, please state explicitly in the Introduction of the abstract that it is the second stage of a Registered Report. These second stage abstracts will be solely evaluated on the adherence to the stated plan, and will be accepted regardless of the positivity or negativity of the results.
* Selected first stage Registered Reports will be presented in a lightning talk session during the congress. All accepted Registered Reports will be presented as abstracts following the lightning talks. The poster presentation is intended to foster discussion, stimulate collaboration, and build momentum for the next phase of the project.

Submission Format
Abstracts should be submitted in structured format following the sections outlined above, with a maximum length of 5000 characters (excluding references). Up to two figures may be included showing preliminary data or methodological approach.

Guidelines for Project Abstract Submissions
Overview
The European Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and Biology (ESMRMB) is introducing project abstracts as a new abstract submission format. This format is designed to foster collaboration, open dialogue, and transparency in research. Project abstracts present new research ideas, inviting community feedback and collaboration to shape impactful, collaborative projects.

What is a Project Abstract?
A project abstract is a description of a new research initiative or ongoing research project, inviting the MRI community to provide input or join a collaboration. They are particularly valuable for launching interdisciplinary projects, building research networks, and gaining valuable input from experts — regardless of whether data collection has begun. Project abstracts are suited for research and development in the broadest sense, but should always include a clear need for help, feedback and collaboration.

Suitable Abstract Categories
Project abstracts are designed to promote early collaboration and open dialogue around ongoing or planned research initiatives. They are ideal for any stage of any type of project that would benefit from community input, collaboration, or feedback. Submissions are welcome from across the entire spectrum of research and development, including:

Tool & Method Development
# Research tools, software, or pipelines in development
# Platforms or methodologies that could benefit from broader adoption or testing
# Projects needing collaborators for technical validation or cross-site comparison

Scientific Research
# Early-stage ideas or hypotheses that require input to shape a methodological plan
# Ongoing studies seeking collaborators for data collection, analysis, or interpretation
# Completed studies that need support with discussion, dissemination, or follow-up project design

Open Science & Science Communication
# Initiatives that enhance reproducibility, accessibility, or community engagement
# Citizen science projects or public outreach efforts
# Projects aiming to build educational tools, datasets, or community resources

Educational Materials & Literature Reviews
# Development of educational resources, training modules, or online learning platforms
# (Systematic) literature reviews, meta-analyses, or evidence mapping projects
# Initiatives to support knowledge dissemination or capacity building within the community

Required Components
All project abstracts must include:

1. Introduction
1.1. Background and motivation
* Background and rationale
* Clear gap in knowledge being addressed
* Relevance to clinical practice, technological advancement or scientific community

1.2. Objectives and Hypothesis
* Explicit objective(s)
* Hypotheses of the study (if applicable)

2. Methodology
Can include, but is not limited to:

* For scientific research: proposal of study setup, population, data acquisition, data analysis and statistical analysis
* For tool or software development: description of the tool/functionality, technical approach or framework, planned development steps, intended users, and plans for testing or validation.
* For open science initiatives: goals related to accessibility, reproducibility, or transparency; planned activities (e.g., repository creation, standardization efforts); and proposed community engagement.
* For science communication or outreach projects: target audience, communication medium, planned content or format, dissemination strategy, and (if applicable) evaluation or feedback approach.
* For educational materials: target audience, format, key topics or skills to be covered, and methods of development.
* For literature reviews: research question or topic, inclusion/exclusion criteria, databases to be searched, and planned methods for evidence synthesis (e.g., PRISMA guidelines for systematic reviews).

3. Current Status and Preliminary Results
Clearly state the status of the project (conceptual, ongoing) and possible funding information.

4. Plan and Outlook
For Project Abstracts, this section needs to contain a clear and descriptive call for feedback or collaboration.
Describe your own input and expertise for this project, and the type of input, expertise, or partnership you're seeking from the community.

5. References
Not added to the character count

Evaluation Criteria
All submitted project abstracts will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

# Clarity of the project and objectives
# Soundness of proposed methodology
# Potential for impact and relevance for the MRI community
# Clear call for help, feedback and collaboration. Abstracts without such a call will be rejected.

Important Notes
* Project abstracts are intended to be structured and purposeful proposals that outline a research initiative, tool, or outreach concept in development and, in need of community engagement. The project proposer should remain the driving force behind the initiative.
* Projects can be at any stage — from early conceptual ideas to ongoing work seeking feedback, collaboration, or planning for next steps. Even completed projects, where data acquisition and analysis are finished but support is needed for discussion, follow-up studies, or dissemination, are welcome.
* A clear description of the project’s current status and the type of input or collaboration needed is essential.
* Unlike other abstract categories, project abstracts are open to all types of work, including: research and development, open science and community-oriented initiatives, tool and infrastructure development, science communication and outreach, (systematic) reviews, and creation of educational materials.
* Selected project abstracts will be presented during a lightning talk session. All accepted Project Abstracts will be presented as posters following the lightning talks. The abstract presentation is intended to foster discussion, stimulate collaboration, and build momentum for the next phase of the project. We welcome the authors to include contact information on their posters to invite feedback and collaboration proposals.
* There is no requirement to submit final results, but authors are encouraged to update the community on project progress in future meetings. Authors are also expected to uphold a high level of scientific integrity, ensuring that collaborators are properly acknowledged based on their contributions. We additionally encourage acknowledging the role of the ESMRMB community in supporting the project where appropriate.

Submission Format
Abstracts should be submitted in structured format following the sections outlined above, with a maximum length of 5000 characters (excluding references). Up to two figures may be included showing preliminary data or methodological approach.
# Initiatives that enhance reproducibility, accessibility, or community engagement
# Citizen science projects or public outreach efforts
# Projects aiming to build educational tools, datasets, or community resources

Educational Materials & Literature Reviews
# Development of educational resources, training modules, or online learning platforms
# (Systematic) literature reviews, meta-analyses, or evidence mapping projects
# Initiatives to support knowledge dissemination or capacity building within the community

Required Components
All project abstracts must include:

1. Introduction
1.1. Background and motivation
* Background and rationale
* Clear gap in knowledge being addressed
* Relevance to clinical practice, technological advancement or scientific community

1.2. Objectives and Hypothesis
* Explicit objective(s)

For Project Abstracts, this section needs to contain the exact call for collaboration which is the reason why this abstract was submitted.
Describe your input and expertise for this project, and the type of input, expertise, or partnership you're seeking from the community.

* Accepted project abstracts will be presented during a power pitch session, followed by a project market, at the 2025 ESMRMB conference to foster discussion, stimulate collaboration, and build momentum for the next phase of the project.

Examples
* Example for a Project Abstract on Method Development
* Example for a Project Abstract on Scientific Research
* Example for a Project Abstract on Educational Materials

Conference Lab
This is a space for all members to help the CPC with the organization of the ESMRMB 2026 conference in Girona, Spain! It is an open space for all to voice their opinion, but mostly to propose sessions.

Create a link to a new page here below and start working on your session proposal. Everybody can see it and contribute to it, to make the best "crowdsourced" sessions possible!
Member proposals
Create a new member session proposal:
preload=Template:Member Session/Preload
default=(My member session)
</inputbox>

Rules for member proposals
Member sessions are 60-90 minute sessions proposed by the Membership. The proposals are open, and everybody can comment and contribute. Be an active part of the conference by organizing a session!
* Submission deadline: April 19th, 2026. Submissions can still be changed after this date, but no new proposals will be accepted.
* The CPC will ultimately decide which member sessions will be included in the congress. We will try to accommodate everyone, but the time slots are limited, and it will depend on multiple factors (including the number of scientific abstracts received) how much space there will be for this sessions. But they will for sure be a few!
* The main proponents of the member sessions will be appropriately acknowledged in the program. The identity of the proponents will be determined by the CPC according to the original creation of the session page, the indications on the page itself, and the revision history. We will make sure that all those who significantly contributed to the organization will be acknowledged.
* Wait before contacting speakers until a reasonable consensus is reached.
* Do not change a speaker name that has already been contacted, unless the speaker officially declined.
* Use the talk page of a proposal for discussion.
* Main organizers and invited speakers of accepted sessions will be offered free admittance to the networking dinner.
