The Membership, Media, and Marketing (MMM) officer is an ESMRMB Board member that takes care of engaging with the Membership and handles the public communication of the Society.
It is a role that is taken by a newly elected member of the board on the biyearly elections. It can either be a clinician or a basic scientist.
The Board decides who of the newly elected members will take over the MMM role, the other becoming the Secretary of the Society.
After two years, the MMM Officer will either become Treasurer or Education officer for the remainder of their 4-year term.
The Officer also gives recommendations to the Board in terms of requirements for membership, such as Junior membership. Note that the requirements for Junior membership are not defined in the Statutes, and can therefore be freely decided by the MMM Officer and the Board.
The MMM Committee
At the beginning of the term, the Officer nominates a MMM Committee, who will stay in activity for the two-year term. Current practice is that a member of the Early Career Researcher Committee is ex officio member of the MMM Committee.
Otherwise, the Officer is free to nominate the Committee, which is usually composed of 4 members, plus the Officer who is its Chair. Gender and geographical balance is encouraged. Committee members should be ESMRMB members, and the Committee needs to be approved by the Board.
Duties of the MMM Officer/Committee
The scope and duties of this committee have changed and evolved over the years, and this page is also expected to evolve in the future. A very important mission is to reach everyone who is involved in MR in the European geographical area and make it attractive for them to become ESMRMB members. However, the main goal is to provide value for the European MR community in general. In this light, geographical diversity in the committee is highly encouraged, especially to try to target Eastern European countries, who are currently underrepresented in the Society.
In practical terms, there are also a few tasks that fall under the duty of the MMM, and therefore it is suggested that the Officer assigns these regular tasks to a Committee member.
ESMRMB Newsletter
Since 2023, we have tried to have a monthly newsletter of the ESMRMB. This is generally finalized in content in the first week of the month, and sent out in the second week by the Office. A google doc is created in the shared Board Google Drive and each newsletter usually consists of 3-4 contributions. A message from the CPC chair is usually included, and at the end there is an overview of upcoming courses and events (mostly organized by the ESMRMB but also endorsed events). Other contributions should be solicited periodically as needed by the MMM. Examples include: ECRC updates, MRI Together updates, election announcements and results, information on upcoming courses, statements and updates by board members, MAGMA updates. Try to keep the newsletter reasonably short, so that the readers are not too bored. It is suggested that one member takes care of this.
ESMRMB Socials
We have started using buffer.com for cross-posting on X/Twitter, LinkedIn, and BlueSky. The aim is to have 2-3 posts published per week. During congress promotion period, these are shared among speaker highlights (provided by the CPC), and other announcements. One member of the MMM Committee should take care of scheduling these posts. Usually, it's the ECRC member.
ESMRMB Website
Direct editing of the ESMRMB Website is given to the MMM Officer, the ECRC Chair, and the Secretary. The Central Office can still perform modifications, but for smaller tasks and faster turnover, these Board members can do it themselves.
