We are a university with a focus on engineering and natural sciences as well as economics, human sciences and medicine. We offer excellent study and working conditions to 13,000 students from Germany and abroad as well as approx. 3,000 employees.
The Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, together with its associated non-university partners, has an internationally renowned neuroscientific profile. The Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) 1436 “Neural Resources of Cognition” effectively and permanently strengthens the integration and interdisciplinary research of neuroscientific research groups in Magdeburg. Within this CRC, project Z02 will develop high-resolution imaging in humans using ultra-high-field magnetic resonance imaging and provide it to the users of the CRC. For this task, the Department of Biomedical Magnetic Resonance is looking for a postdoctoral researcher for diffusion-weighted MRI sequence development and brain imaging.
A 7 Tesla MAGNETOM Terra.X Impulse Edition will be used to image and measure brain functions and structures with a precision never before achieved at the site. This makes the Magdeburg university campus the second location in the world to have an MRI of this strength. In particular, the aim is to transform diffusion-weighted MRI from a white matter to a gray matter method using the unique performance of the 7T Terra.X Impulse Edition. In addition to ultra-high resolution diffusion imaging in the cortex and deep brain regions, innovative concepts and models (interstitial fluid volume estimation, free water DTI, NODDI etc.) will be applied in the CRC to investigate brain clearance as a potential cognitive reserve mechanism.
Job description:
- Method development for diffusion imaging at 7T Terra.X Impulse Edition to investigate brain clearance and gray matter microstructure
- Development and optimization of MR-sequences for the 7T projects of the CRC 1436
- Presentation and publication of scientific results
Requirements profile:
- completed master's degree and completed doctorate in physics, medical technology or a related discipline
- experience in research in the field of magnetic resonance imaging, ideally for diffusion-weighted MRI
- experience in the field of neuroscience is desirable
enjoy working in an interdisciplinary team of researchers and physicians
- very independent, structured and results-oriented working style
- very good written and spoken English, knowledge of German is a plus
